Help & Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started: Create, Add, Study

Using Memorize In A Flash involves three main steps:

  1. Create a Subject (Deck): Think of a subject as a container for related flashcards (e.g., "Spanish Vocabulary", "PHP Functions", "World Capitals").
    • Go to the Subjects tab (requires login).
    • Use the "Create New Subject" form on the left. Enter a unique name and an optional description.
    • Click "Create Subject". Your new subject will appear in the list on the right.
  2. Add Flashcards: Once you have a subject, you can add cards to it.
    • Go to the Add Card tab (requires login, or click the " Add Card" button next to a subject on the Subjects tab).
    • Select the correct subject from the "Select Subject" dropdown.
    • Enter the prompt or question in the "Question (Front of Card)" box.
    • Enter the answer or information in the "Answer (Back of Card)" box.
    • Choose the starting "Display Frequency" (usually Always). See the next section for details on frequency.
    • Click "Add Flashcard".
  3. Study Your Cards: This is where the learning happens!
    • Go to the Study tab (requires login).
    • Select the subject you want to study from the dropdown.
    • Choose the direction ("Question First" or "Answer First").
    • Click "Start Studying".
    • You'll be shown a card. Think of the answer, then click " Show/Flip" to see the other side.
    • Click " Know" if you knew it, or " Don't Know" if you didn't. This helps the app schedule the card for future review.
    • You can also " Edit" or " Delete" the current card.
    • Click "End Study Session" when you're done.

How Card Frequency Works (Spaced Repetition)

Memorize In A Flash uses a simple spaced repetition system (SRS) to help you review cards efficiently. Instead of showing every card every time, it schedules them based on how well you know them, determined by your "Know" () and "Don't Know" () clicks during study sessions.

Frequency Levels:

Cards progress through these levels based on your performance:

AlwaysDailyWeeklyMonthlyQuarterlyAnnually

Promotion & Demotion Rules (Score Difference):

This system applies only to cards with frequencies other than 'Available'.

After each time you click " Know" or " Don't Know" for a card, the system calculates a simple score: Total 'Know' Clicks - Total 'Don't Know' Clicks for that card at its current frequency level.

This system ensures cards you consistently get right appear less often, while cards you struggle with appear more frequently until you master them.

Sharing Your Decks

You can share your decks with friends or classmates easily:

  1. Generate a Share Link:
    • Go to the Manage tab (requires login).
    • In the "Share a Subject" section, select the deck you want to share from the dropdown menu.
    • The page will reload, showing any existing links for that subject.
    • Click the " Generate New Share Link" button.
    • A unique, private link will be generated and displayed.
  2. Share the Link:
    • Copy the generated link using the "" button next to it.
    • Send this link to anyone you want to share the deck with.
  3. Managing Links:
    • You can view all active share links for a selected subject on the Manage tab.
    • You can generate multiple unique links for the same deck if needed.
    • To revoke access via a specific link, click the "" delete button next to that link in the list. This only deletes the link, not your original deck.
  4. How Others Import Your Deck:
    • When someone clicks your share link, they will be taken to an import page (they must be logged into their own Memorize In A Flash account).
    • The page shows the name and description of your shared deck.
    • They click "Import This Deck".
    • A *copy* of your deck and all its cards (at that moment) will be added to *their* account. Their copy starts with all cards set to the 'Always' frequency and counts reset.
    • **Important:** Importing creates a separate copy. Any future changes you make to your original deck will *not* affect the decks others have imported, and vice-versa.
    • If the person importing already has a deck with the exact same name, the import will fail, and they will be asked to rename their existing deck first.
  5. Privacy Note: Share links grant access to copy the content of the deck. Share them only with people you trust. Deleting a link revokes access *for that specific link*.
